RIERA STUDIO es un espacio de exhibición, reflexión y diálogo artístico que reconoce y estudia las diferentes dinámicas del desarrollo periférico del arte y la sociedad; entendiendo los procesos sociales que inspiran a los artistas desde este contexto. Enfermos mentales y discapacitados físicos, visionarios, constructores de realidades paralelas, abducidos, hombres comunes, entre otros, desarrollan su labor creativa sin contacto alguno con las instituciones artísticas establecidas; respondiendo a una fuerte motivación intrínseca y haciendo uso frecuentemente de materiales y técnicas poco usuales. Una gran parte de este arte periférico refleja estados mentales extremos, idiosincrasias particulares o elaborados mundos de fantasía.

Art Brut Project Cuba es un proyecto de arte creado en RIERA STUDIO con el propósito de promover y apoyar expresiones artísticas singulares realizadas por creadores que no poseen ninguna formación artística académica y que mantienen su creación al margen de las tendencias estilísticas predominante en la cultura visual. Son objeto de atención de nuestro proyecto todas aquellas creaciones realizadas en este contexto y usualmente agrupadas bajo las denominaciones de Art Brut y Outsider Art, cada una de ellas con sus propias características pero históricamente vinculadas.

Art Brut Project Cuba es en la actualidad el único proyecto cubano especializado en estas formas de arte y alberga la mayor colección de Art Brut y Outsider Art realizado en Cuba. Nuestra principal tarea está orientada hacia el reconocimiento y la promoción de creadores cubanos de ambas denominaciones de arte tanto en el contexto nacional como internacional. Muchos de los artistas que integran este proyecto padecen de algún tipo de enfermedad mental u otra afectación a su salud o en sus condiciones de vida y en muchos casos constituyen una carga para sus familias. Por tal motivo, una de nuestras más importantes metas es lograr el reconocimiento de estos individuos por sus familiares como artistas plenamente activos y ayudarlos a ser cada vez más independientes.

RIERA STUDIO is an art space for art exhibitions, reflection and cultural dialogue that recognizes and studies the different dynamics and development of an art made outside the mainstreams norms, its relationship with society and the social processes that inspire its creators. Our interest is focused on the promotion of a form of art produced by vulnerable social groups and others who develop their creative work away from established official arts institutions or the mainstream art; just in response to a strong innate motivation and often working with non-conventional materials and techniques. Much of this singular art reflects extreme mental states, very individual idiosyncrasies or extravagant worlds of fantasy.

Art Brut Project Cuba is an art project created by RIERA STUDIO with the purpose of promoting and supporting singular art expressions, that share a stylistic distance from the existing visual culture based on academic or intellectual training; and whose makers have no knowledge of intellectual artistic issues. Art made within this context and usually gathered under the related categories of Art Brut and Outsider Art, each one with its own conceptual characteristics but with dashing boundaries in between, are the scope of our project.

Art Brut Project Cuba is actually the only Cuban art project specialized in these forms of visual art and it brings together the biggest collection of Cuban Art Brut and Outsider Art. Its main task is the acknowledgment and promotion of the Cuban creators of these types of art and their artworks, in the national and international scenes. Many of these artists have severe mental illnesses or difficult health and living conditions, and in many cases are a burden for their families. Thus, one of our most important goals is their recognition by their families as artistically creative individuals and to help them to be more independent.
